Air conditioner repairs and upkeep are important as many of them can be time-consuming and expensive. When you think about it, it may be worth asking the air conditioner manufacturer about how long a system is expected to last. And it is generally recommended that you replace an air conditioner every 10 to 15 years. While a lot of people are unaware of this, your air conditioner can run for a very long time, provided that you take good care of it.

CONDENSER NAMEPLATE
You may have noticed the unit’s manufacture date hanging from your unit’s nameplate. The maker’s name is going to appear at the top of your unit’s nameplate. Failure to check the nameplate for the unit’s manufacture date could lead to a major expense if you need to replace the unit. If you don’t have a nameplate on your unit, then you will have to look up the unit’s information by the serial number on the unit’s nameplate. If you have a nameplate on your unit, you will see the manufacturer’s name and the date of manufacture. The serial number will usually be located at the bottom of the unit. If the manufacturing date is not immediately visible on the condenser, the brand, model and serial number on the condenser plate will help determine the age of the unit.
MANUFACTURING DATE
Go to the outside cabinet: the cabinet that houses the air conditioning system. On most each unit, the nameplate is fixed to the backside of the cabinet. To discover a unit’s manufacture date, you will need to follow the instruction on the factory floor and learn how to interpret the serial or model number. Simply find the manufacture date and check the manufacturing date. A decoder will provide you with the date of manufacture of your model and serial number. In the event, your unit is not listed on their website, please ensure that you know how to enable the decoder manually since they will not be listed on their website.
INSTALLATION DATE
Typically, an installation date and manufacture date will align closely for the unit. Confirming the unit’s age can help customers decide if it is best to repair or replace it.
